Scotland skip Murdoch confident as Winter Olympics draw ever nearer
For Britain's number one curler David Murdoch, the glass is definitely half full.
Murdoch captured the Scottish and the European crown last winter before snatching the World Championships from Canadian hands in their own back yard.
Next year, Murdoch returns to Canada as the one to beat at Vancouver 2010. For the pessimists, Murdoch will have peaked too early and will not be able to defeat Kevin Martin on home ice again - but the Scot is ever the optimist.
Great Britain could only manage a solitary silver at the last Winter Olympics, and you have to go back to Nagano 1998 to find the last British male medal winner.
But Murdoch insists his winning streak is far from finished yet - and a gruelling training schedule this summer, along with Ewan MacDonald, Euan Byers, Peter Smith and Graeme Connal proves the desire is still blazing.
And the 31-year-old skip has no plans to relent until he returns from Vancouver with gold around his neck.
"Last season ended with victory in the World Championships and that was a fantastic way to finish - getting the Scottish, Europeans and worlds - it doesn't really get much better than that" said Murdoch, who lost in the bronze-medal match to American Pete Fenson at Turin 2006.
"And since then we all needed some time off because we were competing in so many competitions and it was real drain, but we're back into training now.
"It's very intensive. We were at a fitness camp in Cyprus, working on strength and conditioning, and at the moment we're training six days a week.
"One of the key parts of our success is the continuity of the team. We're obviously doing something right and between now and Vancouver it's more a case of fine-tuning.
"We've had 2010 in our minds for a long time now and while we produced last season we've been geared towards producing next year for plenty of time as well."
