Muirhead gets Murdoch backing

World curling champion David Murdoch is convinced Eve Muirhead has what it takes to capture Olympic gold at Vancouver 2010.

Murdoch will head to Vancouver next year among the favourites for men's gold, having captured the world, European and Scottish titles last season.

Muirhead, 19, on the other hand, will be making her Olympic bow, but has already highlighted her potential by scooping consecutive gold medals at the World Junior Championships in 2007 and 2008.

And Murdoch believes Muirhead can follow in 2002 Olympic champion Rhona Martin's footsteps and lead Great Britain to more curling success in Vancouver.

"They may not be as settled as a team as we are but the girls are the best five players in the country without question," added Murdoch.

"If they can bring it together there's no reason they cannot be successful next year.

"We are going to see a lot from the girls next year and in the future and if both teams can perform well at the Olympics it will hopefully bring some new faces to the fold."
