Scottish World Champions look set to fly British flag in Vancouver next year
The five Scots who claimed World Championship gold in Canada earlier this month look set to fly the British flag at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Scotland, led by skip David Murdoch, picked up their second world gold and fourth world medal in five years by beating Canada's Kevin Martin in his own backyard.
Today British Curling announced the men's, women's and wheelchair training squads ahead of Vancouver, and while those squads can still change ahead of the Games, those fab five look set to get the Olympic nod.
That means Murdoch is once again joined by Euan Byers, Graeme Connal, Ewan MacDonald and Peter Smith, with both Warwick Smith and Craig Wilson missing out.
In the women's team, 44-year-old veteran Jackie Lockhart has been included along with three-time world junior champion Eve Muirhead.
Former world championship bronze medallist Kelly Wood also gets the nod, as does Lorna Vevers and Karen Addison, meaning there is disappointment for Lynn Cameron.
"It is always difficult to make these types of decisions, however I feel we have selected the best athletes available to work towards success in Vancouver," said British Curling performance director Derek Brown. "The athletes selected today know there is no room for complacency as selection for these squads does not in itself guarantee a place on the Olympic or Paralympic Team.
The six athletes to make up the wheelchair team are Tom Killin, Rosemary Lenton, Angie Malone, Michael McCreadie, Aileen Nelson and Jim Sellar.
