A fortnight ago, the Scotland U-19's made their debut in the top flight of the Scottish National Cricket League, only to be humbled by Poloc with a thrashing by 9 wickets.
However, over the past ten days the aspiring Saltires (who won all 9 of their matches on their pre-season tour of South Africa) have made clear they have no intention of being labelled the whipping boys of top-flight cricket.
First, they bounced back from a defeat (by 123 runs) last Tuesday to Durham Academy to win the Wednesday 50-over replay by 3 wickets with a score of 240-7.
Then on Sunday the youngsters claimed the biggest scalp in the SNCL when they inflicted a painful defeat on reigning champions Greenock.
In a cool display of batting and bowling, the Scotland U-19 team hammered Greenock by 92 runs, with 16 year-old school-boy Fred Coleman (103, Penicuik) and Ewan Chalmers (105, Watsonian's) each notching up a century to take the Scotland U-19's 50-over innings to a whopping winning score of 316-6.
After watching his young charges inflict a humiliating defeat on the club side he usually captain's, Scotland U-19 coach Craig Wright said: "I've said all along that it's not as if these guys (U-19's) don't have the ability (to produce such a result)."
