Coach Steindl upbeat on Scotland's chances against Ireland
Scotland coach Pete Steindl is adamant his patched up side can cause an upset against Ireland in the Intercontinental Cup – despite missing seven first-choice players.
Skipper Gavin Hamilton heads up a long list of absentees with Kyle Coetzer, Navdeep Poonia and Calum MacLeod all fulfilling county duties and Dewald Nel and Jan Stander injured.
Scotland last lifted the title at the inaugural event in 2004 and while addressing Ireland as the favourites Steindl believes his side will hold their own.
“We have a great opportunity to show what we can do against the top-ranked associate country in the world,” said Steindl.
“There is no doubt Ireland start as favourites because they have dominated this tournament for the last few years and their confidence is sky high.
“But we did fantastically well to beat Canada in our first Intercontinental Cup game while Ireland drew theirs.”
