Smith ready to fill namesake's gloves in Scotland shirt
Simon Smith has revealed he is ready to return from injury and nail down his place as Colin Smith's long-term successor as Scotland wicketkeeper.
Colin Smith, 36, recently brought down the curtain on his ten-year Scotland career after making more than 180 appearances for the Saltires.
But Simon Smith insists he's ready to fill his namessake's gloves - now that he's recovered from a month out with a broken thumb.
Simon, who will take his place behind the stumps for Scotland's Intercontinental Cup clash with Canada at Mannofield this week, said: "Colin's record speaks for itself and I know he will be a hard act to follow.
"But this is a brilliant opportunity for me to take my chance now and I've got to make the most of it.
"I would have liked to have had a game under my belt before going into such an important match but I'm feeling fit and had a lot of cricket before the thumb injury anyway."
