Scots lose to Somerset

Australian batsmen Cameron Borgas' unbeaten 78 proved to be in vain as Scotland failed to secure back-to-back Friends Provident Trophy victories against Somerset at the Grange.

Gavin Hamilton's troops were riding a crest of a wave after seeing off Kent by nine wickets last time out and despite Borgas' half-century were brought down to earth with a bump, slumping by 37 runs.

Scotland's fate was in their own hands after Jan Stander claimed figures of three for 45 to reduce Somerset to just 220 for eight off their 50 overs.

Stander removed former England opener Marcus Trescothick, James Hildreth and Aussie Justin Langer as Arul Suppiah (48) and Craig Kieswetter (42) guided the Sabres to a respectable total.

Scotland looked in good form early on with Borgas steadying the ship after skipper Hamilton and Fraser Watts' early dismissals but was the last man standing as they lost their last five wickets for 23 runs.

South African Zander de Bruyn removed the top order on his way to three for 24 while Alfonso Thomas cleaned up the tail with figures of four for 22 as the Saltires were bowled out for 183 in the 48th over.
