Watson's return to form not enough to save Scots from thrashing
Scotland suffered their fourth successive Friends Provident Trophy defeat as they were put to the sword by Somerset batsmen Marcus Trescothick and James Hildreth in a 151-run thrashing.
Former England opener Trescothick hit 144 and Hildreth smashed 151, his one-day best, in a home record second wicket partnership of 270 runs as the Sabres racked up a mammoth total of 403-3.
All-rounder Pete Trego also weighed in with 74 from just 39-balls as the Scottish attack disappeared to all parts, with Jan Stander bearing the brunt of the damage as he conceded 106 runs from his ten overs.
Captain Gavin Hamilton made a fluent 62, his third successive half-century since taking over from Ryan Watson, who made a welcome return to form with 67.
Neil McCallum also made an enterprising 50 but the Saltires respectable total of 252-9 still left them well adrift.
Trego and Alfonso Thomas picked up three wickets apiece with Zander de Bruyn's medium pace accounting for Watson and Simon Smith.
