Majid Haq ready to make the most of full-time offer
Majid Haq has vowed to repay the faith shown in him by Cricket Scotland after being offered a full-time contract by coach Peter Steindl.
The 26-year-old will join seamer Dewald Nel and Gordon Goudie as one of three full-time players on the Scottish books three years after making his one-day debut against Bangladesh in Dhaka.
Haq has taken 28 wickets from 23 one-day games at an average of 32.46 and hit three half-centuries – all of which came on route to the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.
And the Paisley off-spinner insists he will grab his latest opportunity with both hands in a bid to turn around the fortunes of cricket north of the border.
“I'm delighted that Cricket Scotland have shown faith in my abilities this year and I really hope I can repay them fully by working hard and improving my game,” said Haq – who was offered the deal after former captain Ryan Watson turned it down.
“I have been told I'll be expected to keep improving my game and not just my bowling – I've got to contribute a lot more with the bat, and I'm just looking forward to working hard.”
