Hamilton set to lead Scotland

Scottish Saltires skipper Gavin Hamilton is on the verge of a surprise return to action in the FP Trophy game with Somerset at Taunton.

The former Yorkshire all rounder, who has also featured for England, looked set for a lengthy lay off after limping out of Scotland's Friends Provident Trophy loss at Kent with a hamstring problem.

But after intensive treatment Hamilton has been named in 13-man squad forthe trip to Taunton and will lead the side providing he shows no ill effects from the injury prior to the game.

He said: "It's getting better a lot quicker than I had anticipated and thatis a big relief because I had feared the worst and providing there is noreaction I will be in the team against Somerset."

The Saltires are without a win so far this term but almost pulled off ashock against the Spitfires last time out at Canterbury.

And Hamilton, who has scored half-centuries in his two games as captain,said: "I've been delighted with the reaction of the players since I tookover and we are concentrating on improving with every game.

"We know we are capable of competing with the counties and we will bepositive against Somerset."
