Hamilton looks at positives in defeat

Skipper Gavin Hamilton has urged his Scotland side to remain positive despite defeats against New Zealand and South Africa sending the Saltires crashing out of the ICC World Twenty20 competition.

An under-par bowling performance allowed New Zealand to chase down a very defendable 89-4 in a match reduced to seven overs on Saturday.

And despite making two changes in the bowling department - bringing in specialist spinners Majid Haq and Glenn Rogers, Hamilton's men were smashed to the tune of 211-5 by the Proteas on Sunday.

Durham professional Kyle Coetzer smashed 42 from just 32 balls in reply but was given little support as the Saltires were all out for 81.

The defeats mean Scotland are the first side to be eliminated from the tournament but an upbeat Hamilton was anxious to cling on to the weekend's plus points.

"The guys out there really performed well over the last few days and a couple of them really stepped up to the plate against some world class opposition," said Hamilton.

"They've raised their games by quite a few levels and there are so many positives we can take from our two matches.

"Both these sides are going to go very far in this tournament but there were times when we could live with them.

"There's no doubt that we'll learn from what we've done here. There were some bad points as well as good points and we'll go away from here, re-group and build on our performances."
