Hamilton leads Scotland to victory

Gavin Hamilton's quickfire century took Scotland to their third group-stage victory against UAE - but it was not enough to keep them in the hunt for World Cup qualification.

Former Yorkshire all-rounder Hamilton smashed 127 from 124 balls as Scotland racked up 299-7, but with the Netherlands beating Canada and Ireland going down to Kenya, the Scots could only finish fifth in the final standings.

The Scots needed to finish at least fourth to remain in the tournament but defeats against Canada and Kenya ended up costing the Scots and despite the 122 run victory over UAE their World Cup dreams now lie in tatters.

Hamilton, who has one England test cap, hit ten fours and three sixes on his way to three figures, adding 121 for the second wicket with Neil McCallum.

After McCallum departed for 54, only Craig Wright (25) made double figures as Scotland closed on 299, Qasim Zubair grabbing three wickets for the Emirates.

Wright was the pick of the Scotland bowlers, picking up 4-41, as the UAE run chase failed to get off the ground. Nithin Gopal put up some slight resistance, hitting 50, but it was not enough to stop Scotland clinching their hollow victory.
