New Scotland captain Gavin Hamilton struggling to make Twenty20 World Cup
Newly-appointed Scotland skipper Gavin Hamilton faces a race against time to be fit to lead his side in the Twenty20 World Cup.
Hamilton suffered an untimely hamstring injury during Scotland?s Friends Provident Trophy loss against Kent on Bank Holiday Monday.
The former Yorkshire all-rounder, who has also featured for England, has only been in the Scotland skipper's role for two games following the announcement last week Ryan Watson would be stepping down,
Hamilton looks certain to miss the remaining FP Trophy fixtures and is keeping his fingers crossed he's fit to take his place in the Scotland squad for the World Cup.
"It is all very frustrating, coming so soon after being given the captaincy," Hamilton admitted. "I tried to stop the ball with my foot while fielding in the ring and ended up stepping on it and the damage was done.
"I have sustained similar problems in my career and it could take a few weeks to sort. Obviously, I hope it is not that serious. The tournament will be a huge test for us all, playing some fantastic sides on the biggest stage cricket can offer.
"We have made some positive steps forward in the last couple of weeks and the full squad is looking forward enormously to testing ourselves against the world's best."
Warm-ups are scheduled against England at Trent Bridge and the Netherlands at The Oval. Scotland's group matches are against New Zealand and South Africa on the June 6 and 7 at The Oval.
