Scotland captain Hamilton laments crucial Trescothick drop
Scotland skipper Gavin Hamilton admits the Saltires paid the ultimate price for failing to take the early chance offered by Marcus Trescothick in their heavy defeat at Somerset.
Wicketkeeper Simon Smith dropped the sharp chance, stood up to Jan Stander, when the former England opener had made only 18.
Hamilton was then forced to watch in horror as Trescothick, who was also dropped by Sean Weeraratna on 112, cracked 144 from 108 balls with James Hildreth also smashing 151 as the home side set the Scots 404 to win.
Hamilton, Ryan Watson and Neil McCallum passed 50 in Scotland?s total of 252-9 but they were never in the hunt after Trescothick?s knock.
"Marcus is a world class player and you have got to take any chance he gives you because he?s so destructive," said Hamilton.
"It was a difficult chance for Simon but after that Marcus was incredible. He timed the ball superbly and we probably got off likely in the end, I was surprised he didn't go on and get 200.
"It was a good pitch but not a 400 pitch and we have got to bowl and field better than we did.
"There were some positives with the bat and it was good to see Ryan score some runs but we?ve got to improve in the next week."
Hamilton's side now face a hectic run of fixtures with four home games in six days at the Grange, starting with the visit of Middlesex on Thursday.
