Scotland look forward to facing off against Aussies
Scotland coach Peter Steindl insists it will be the biggest game of his team’s lives as they prepare for the visit of Australia to the Grange.
Australia are using the match as a warm-up for the forthcoming one-day and Twenty 20 series as they look to seek revenge against Ashes victors England.
Steindl, who was born in Australia, will keep faith in 19-year-old wicketkeeper Marc Petrie, despite playing in their crushing 96-run one-day defeat to Ireland last Saturday.
The visitors will be without under-fire captain Ricky Ponting who has been given some time off following the 2-1 series defeat at the Oval last weekend.
“The players selected are all looking forward to the game immensely; it does not get any bigger than playing the world champions in front of a large crowd,” said former limited-overs specialist Steindl.
“The Australians will be looking for a stern test ahead of the England T20s and ODIs and will certainly not be taking us lightly.”
Scotland last met Australia at the 2007 World Cup where the southern hemisphere team notched a resound 203-run victory.
Only skipper Gavin Hamilton, Fraser Watts, Ryan Watson and Majid Haq are survivors from the Scotland team from the game in St Kitts.
