Campbell Walsh claims World Cup gold in Bratislava
Glasgow's Campbell Walsh got his hands on gold at the canoe slalom World Cup event in Bratislava.
The 31-year-old had finished sixth in the first leg of the three-event World Cup series before following it up with a runners-up spot at the second.
But he hit top form in Slovakia and finished 1.55 seconds ahead of Italy's Daniele Molmenti and was thrilled to finally grab gold.
"I'd raced on the course before and I knew that experience would give me an edge over the others," said Walsh.
"Everything went to plan, I took a tighter line and didn't lose too much time as a result and got the result I wanted."
Beijing silver medallist David Florence, who had won two bronze medals in the World Cup opener in Pau, finished tenth in the canoe single and failed to reach the doubles final with Richard Hounslow.
