Travel nightmare for Walsh

After finishing 7th at a World Cup in Prague last week, 30 year-old Campbell Walsh was looking forward to returning his focus to training on the Olympic white-water in Beijing.

And with just six weeks to go before the opening ceremony, the 2004 Olympic silver (K1) medallist had planned to fly back to his home in Nottingham for 48 hours before hopping aboard another flight for a training camp in Beijing.

Unfortunately, his planned trip home from Prague last weekend proved to be anything but straightforward.

For after checking in his bags in Prague, Walsh and his team-mates found their flight to the East Midlands had been cancelled.  As a result and delayed by 24 hours the paddler had to forego plans to pick up clean clothes, extra kit and the small matter of his new kayak and fly directly from Prague to Heathrow for an onward flight to Beijing.

Apparently, Walsh is indebted to his flat-mate Dano for having gathered together all Walsh's kit in Nottingham and sent it packing to China.
