SNP congratulate Saltire-less canoe stars

The fact that the Olympic canoe slalom team will be an all-Scottish affair hasn't escaped the attention of the Scottish National Party (SNP).
On learning that Walsh, Pennie and Florence will be winging their way east to the white-water of Beijing in August, a spokesperson commented:
"This achievement is well deserved and we congratulate them on their fantastic success. We wish them all the best and will be cheering them on to further success (in Beijing)."
The spokesperson added: "This is a great example of Scottish sporting success and one that can help inspire our young people to take up a further interest in sport."
However, it's unlikely Walsh and his fellow paddlers will be allowed to display their Scottish colours during competition at the Games.
For at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and after wearing his Saltire emblazoned helmet in the semi-final, Walsh was forced to 'modify' his helmet to make it look more like a Union Jack.
Whoever said there's no politics in sport!
