BOA make GB's Olympic team an all-Scottish affair
Since dominating their respective disciplines at GB's canoe slalom selection trials in Holland and Nottingham last month it has been no secret that the Scottish trio of Fiona Pennie (K1, women), Campbell Walsh (K1 men) and David Florence (C1 men) would be representing Scotland and GB at the Beijing Olympics in August.
However, it's now official with the British Olympic Association (BOA) having formally 'ratified' the paddlers at a photo call in Nottingham yesterday (Wednesday).
For 30 year-old Walsh, a gold medallist at the European Championships in Poland earlier this month, winning his second BOA vest presents another opportunity to paddle for the ultimate gold medal in sport.
Glasgow born Walsh, whom won a silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, commented yesterday: "it's a second opportunity for me to get gold."
For 25 year-old Nottingham based Pennie, Beijing will be her first taste of Olympic action.
The 2007 World Cup bronze medallist, whose mother was an international flat water paddler, said: "I am looking forward to taking part in the biggest sporting event in the world."
They will be joined on the China bound plane by 25 year-old Florence.
The Aberdeen born, Edinburgh raised and Nottingham based paddler, whose uncle and dad both competed in the sport, has in impressive track record including a bronze medal at a 2007 World Cup in Prague.
All will be going for gold in Beijing – though bagpipe playing linguist Florence will also be hoping the Games also provide the perfect opportunity to further improve his Chinese language skills!
