Tim Baillie aiming to eumlate Walsh and Florence by claiming Olympic glory
Tim Baillie suffered heartache in missing out on last year’s Olympics – but the Aberdeen canoeist is not about to let lightning strike twice as he bids for London 2012 glory.
Baillie and partner Etienne Stott failed to make the plane for China after a disappointing display at the European Championships in Poland last May.
But the lows of 2008 have been replaced by highs in 2009 with Baillie and Stott claiming bronze in the C2 category at this year’s European Championships.
And after an impressive 2009 – Baillie and Stott were crowned champions at the British slalom Championships in Wales last week – Baillie admits he has regained his passion for the sport.
“We’re committed to training until London, but we want to do well before then,” said Baillie.
“Having missed out on the Olympics once already I would love to be involved, especially in Britain and London would be amazing.
“But what I’ve learned is you cannot let the Olympics become all-consuming.
“Etienne and I want to be as good as we can be and if we build on what we have done this year, we will get the results.”
