Florence and Walsh make podium in Spain

Aberdeen’s David Florence bagged his first medal of the Canoe Slalom World Championships with a bronze in the C2 team competition in La Seu d’Urgell, Spain.

The 27-year old, an Olympic silver medallist for C1 slalom in Beijing last summer, teamed up with Richard Hounslow and British pairs Timothy Baillie and Etienne Scott and Colin Radmore and Daniel Goddard to finish behind Slovakia and Germany in 117.20 secs.

Fellow Scot Campbell Walsh also made the podium in Spain, combining with Huw Swetnam and Hounslow to pick up silver in the K1 event.

The trio all put in flawless runs to finish in 99.46 secs, just over a second behind Czech Republic.

And Walsh, an Olympic silver medallist in Athens five years ago, will take encouragement from his performance as he turns his attention to an individual prize with the K1 semi final on Sunday.

Florence is also back in action on Sunday having qualified 11th fastest for the C1 semi final and fourth fastest with Hounslow for the C2 semis.
