Gary Young chasing British title opportunity after claiming capital victory
Edinburgh's Gary Young has targeted a British title fight after beating capital rival Gary McMillan for the Scottish welterweight title.
At the Glasgow Pavilion, the 26 year old Young narrowly outpointed (96-95) his southpaw opponent who was hampered by a cut to the side of his right eye early in the fight.
“I stuck to my game plan” said the newly crowned champion, ”which was to out-box him for the first six rounds then out-fight him for the last six.
"It all went to plan and I felt I was more patient than he was. It may have been that he was trying too hard for a knock out because of the cut he sustained early on.
“Now I want to go on and win more titles and hopefully I’ll get a chance to fight for the British championship in the new year."
