Gary Young determined to make American ring debut
Welterweight Gary Young is determined that his American ring debut will go ahead, despite having to postpone it through injury.
The 26-year-old has returned to Edinburgh for treatment after infected wisdom teeth meant last week's fight against American Tony Hirsch in California had to be postponed.
Following a promising start to his career, Young suffered a first round knockout defeat at the hands of Scottish rival Colin McNeil in April 2006 and, despite winning his next two fights, his career has been hampered by injury.
Young has had hand and dental problems but he is remaining optimistic over his future.
"It was very disappointing to have to put-off the fight but that's all it was," said Young.
"I would like to stress that my fight with Tony has just been postponed, it will go ahead in San Jose once I've recovered fully.
"The cost of dental treatment for my wisdom teeth operation would have been prohibitive in Los Angeles so I came home and had the teeth removed and I'm now recuperating and looking forward to getting back in the ring."
