McArthur expects more from himself in bid to take on McAllister
Clydebank boxer Gary McArthur admits he was disappointed with his performance, despite a points win over Poland's Arek Malik in front of his home crowd.
The 26-year-old had to win to maintain his chances of a lucrative bout with Aberdeen's Lee McAllister for the Commonwealth title but McArthur found his journeyman opponent tougher than expected.
McArthur shook his head as his hand was held aloft and was adamant he would raise his level for the title fight.
"I was lacklustre and I was disappointed in myself," said McArthur, "But I'll up my game for McAllister if we meet because that will be a big-time fight.
"I had a low-key contest in a big-time atmosphere in my own home town but if I want to go forward then I have to learn to handle the pressure better than I did tonight, that's for sure."
Promoter Tommy Gilmour has promised an all-Scottish "100,000 fight for the Commonwealth title providing McAllister can beat Godfried Sowah June 19.
