Lee McAllister unfazed by King Commonwealth threat
Commonwealth lightweight boxing champion Lee McAllister insists challenger Charlie King is out of his depth ahead of his first title defence at the Beach Ballroom on October 17.
The Aberdeen Assassin, who will be fighting in front of a hometown crowd, let his opponent know exactly where he stands ahead of next month’s contest.
“I have no doubt Charlie will be fighting for the British, European and Commonwealth titles in the future – but this is the present,” said McAllister.
“This fight has come five years too early for him. This is a massive step up in class.”
McAllister won the title by defeating Ghanaian Godfred Sowah in June, and believes he is in the form of his life.
“That fight was one of the best performances of my career - and the successful defence of my title should be an improvement on that."
But King was unfazed by the champion’s verbal assault and, after only one defeat in 16 fights, the young Lanarkshire hitter insists he is more than ready for the title challenge.
“I’m going to prove I’m more than just King by name - I’m going to dethrone McAllister and take control of the Commonwealth,” said King.
