Alex Arthur feeling confident ahead of first bout at light-welterweight
Edinburgh boxer Alex Arthur will make a step up to the light-welterweight category to fight Nigel Wright in Newcastle next month.
Arthur – a former WBO champion – lost his WBO super-featherweight title to Nicky Cook last year but bounced back in June, stopping Mohammed Benbiou at lightweight.
And while admitting the step up for the Wright fight will be a stern test, 31-year-old Arthur insists he is up to the task.
"Nigel is the former British light-welterweight champion," said Arthur - who is set to fight on December 5.
"It's a big jump but it's one I believe I can make. I wouldn't take the fight if I didn't think I could win.
"I have been boxing with some really good southpaws in training and I am going to be the first person to knock Nigel Wright out or stop him."
