Paul Appelby loses British featherweight title to Martin Lindsay
Paul Appleby saw his hopes of a world title fight go up in smoke after he surrendered his British featherweight title to Northern Ireland's Martin Lindsay on Saturday.
The 21-year-old, from South Queensferry, saw his 14-fight unbeaten record left in tatters at Ulster Hall after being was stopped in the sixth round.
Appleby took the British title from John Simpson last June and despite starting well was no match for 26-year-old Lindsay.
Scot Appleby landed the first real punch in round one only for Lindsay to hit back with a sharp right and three shots to the head before the round was out.
Lindsay took advantage in round two and three as Appleby tired before landing an over the top right to end the contest in the sixth round.
Appleby had hoped to face IBF titleholder Cristobal Cruz but will now be forced back to the drawing board after his Irish exploits.
