Rocks owner Reid over the moon as point guard Yanders stays on
Newly-named Glasgow Rocks have beat off growing competition and persuaded skipper Rob Yanders to stay at Kelvin Hall for another year – much to the delight of owner Ian Reid.
The point guard became increasingly frustrated with events at the club last year and looked all set to leave when British Basketball League champions Newcastle came knocking.
Despite signing a three-year deal last year Yanders prepared himself for a move away from Glasgow by selling all his household good and furniture.
However fearing the worst Rocks coach Sterling Davis thrashing out a deal with Yanders keeping him with the club until the end of the season.
And Reid said: “The fact that Rob has signed up for another year is testament to Sterling Davis’ ability to negotiate.
"For once I had very little involvement as Sterling took this upon himself to talk with Rob’s agent and patiently thrash out a deal acceptable to all parties.
“The bid from Newcastle was a very serious one indeed so Sterling did have to pull this one out of the hat – which he did.
"Newcastle weren’t the only ones in the hunt for his signature. There was one other BBL club as well as interest from abroad."
