Scots flying high in USA

Scottish basketball stars Rose Anderson and Michelle Duff are set to be among the biggest winners of British Basketball’s funding boost – despite both plying their trade in the USA.

Anderson, 20, who scored the winning basket for Scotland as they clinched Junior European Promotion three seasons ago is now a mainstay of the Central Oklahoma University side.

The Great Britain under-20 captain is averaging just shy of 11 points a game for her side and has a three-point average of 0.36 per game in her preferred position of guard-forward
And the former Edinburgh Kool Kat came up against a familiar face in Central’s most recent 108-57 victory over Mid-Western State, former Portobello neighbour Duff.

"I'm playing pretty well at the moment and really enjoying being back at guard-forward having given point-guard go,” said Anderson – younger sister of Commonwealth boxing gold medallist Kenny Anderson.

“The style of play the coach uses suits me really well and I’m going to benefit so much from being out here - but there's always room for improvement.

"It was awesome to see Michelle (Duff) after such a long time and good to chat to someone Scottish.

“But we absolutely killed them, leading 64-19 at half-time, and, if the coach had kept us the starting five on, I reckon we would have scored 130."
