Glasgow Rocks player-coach Davis upbeat despite opening day defeat
Glasgow player-coach Sterling Davis has urged his Rocks to take their opening day 90-86 defeat to reigning BBL champions Newcastle on the chin as they bid to make the play-offs this season.
Rookie guard Jessie Sapp lead the way for Glasgow netting 26 points on debut however it wasn’t enough with the Eagles showing their class to hold off a late charge from the home side.
The Rocks hit nine unanswered points in the final quarter but 21 all important points from Charles Smith proved too much as Newcastle ran out narrow winners.
But Rocks coach Davis – who himself scored 13 points – refused to be downcast with their second clash of the new season against Milton Keynes fast approaching.
"There's something to build on here. We battled the whole game and that was important to start off the year,” said Davis.
“We could have won the game but we can learn from this and make adjustments."
