Archibald on the plane to Poland

Scotland's Robert Archibald has been named in the Great Britain basketball team for next month's European Championships debut in Poland.

However, British coach Chris Finch will have to do without two of his NBA stars.

Luol Deng, who plays for the Chicago Bulls, is injured while Ben Gordon has elected to spend the summer cementing his place in the Detroit Pistons squad.

But Finch is delighted at Archibald's return to the national set-up.

The 29-year-old from Paisley was unable to play last summer due to injury but he returns to the squad having been one of Unicaja's best players this season in the ACB, where he came up against fellow Brit Joel Freeland in the quarter-finals of the Spanish play-offs.

"Rob's return is huge, this year we need him more than ever," he said.

"He is a high level guy and can do more than has been asked of him in the past.

"He plays hard, is smart, a good rebounder and shoots well. He will be a centre point of what we are building this summer."
