Basketball: Leaders Sheffield too good for Glasgow

Glasgow couldn’t knock the Sheffield Sharks off top spot in the BBL Championship as they surrendered in the final quarter and slumped to an 85-75 defeat.

Mike Copeland, player-coach Sterling Davis and Jessie Sapp all shot themselves into three figures for the Rocks but 22 points from Mike Cook and 15 each from Todd Cauthorn and Ryan Patton proved too much.

A late Sapp three-pointer gave Glasgow a slender 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and they held that after the interval until Cauthorn’s untimely rise.

The Sharks sunk six quick points to turn the lead to 26-24 in their favour and despite the Rocks twice pulling level in third quarter Sheffield never gave up.

Cook set the ball rolling in the final period with a three-pointer as Sheffield raced to a 68-61 advantage before continuing that form towards the end.
