Robert Archibald ready to step up for team GB
Scotland’s Robert Archibald insists he is ready to step up to the mark in the absence of NBA star and Great Britain team-mate Luol Deng.
Great Britain take on Poland, Turkey and Israel at the O2 this weekend in a warm-up tournament for next month’s EuroBasket.
Chicago Bulls’ star Deng is absent – along with Ben Gordon and Pops Mensah-Bonsu – but 29-year-old Archibald insists he able to fill his boots.
"I am comfortable being one of the main players in the team this summer," said Archibald.
"I've been playing professionally for a few years now and at a good level.
“Certainly there are going to be guys who have to step up with Luol not being able to play, but with my experience and knowing what I can do I'm confident I can step up.
"Luol has been a big part of what we've achieved so far, so it's difficult not having him but you can't miss what you don't have.
"We have enough players with talent so there are definitely going to be guys who can step up, but it's important to always remember we are a team.”
