Larkhall’s Kenneth Young knocked out the top two seeds to claim a surprise victory in the under-23 men’s singles at the Bank of Scotland Under-23 Championship at Meadowbank in Edinburgh.

In the semi-finals, Young toppled the No.1 seed Gordon Hoggan (Dunfermline)  21-19 15-21 21-11 and he followed up with another battling 21-13 9-21 21-15 victory over second favourite Martin Campbell (Edinburgh) in the final.

Alison Marr (Troon) retained the women’s singles with a comfortable 21-15 21-13 triumph in the final over Glasgow’s Gillian Sloan, while Kirsty Gilmour (Bothwell), who already holds this season’s Bank of Scotland Under-19 title, added the under-17 championship by beating Larkhall’s Fiona Archibald 21-11 21-9 in the final.  

The promising Morrison twins from Motherwell won a catalogue of events at under-13 level. Sophie beat Hannah in the girls’ singles and they teamed up to win the girls’ doubles. In the mixed, Sophie completed a hat-trick by partnering boys’ singles winner, Adam Hall (Mauchline), to a 21-18 21-15 victory over Hannah and Sean Leith (Stonehaven).
