Young Scots beat Police

A Scotland under-23 team defeated the British Police 8-3 in the annual match at the Cockburn Centre in Glasgow.

Kirsty Gilmour (Bothwell), the Bank of Scotland Scottish Champion at under-19 and under-17 level, was the star of the evening, winning all three matches.

Kirsty, Kenny Young (Lanark) and Steven Stewart (Bonhill) secured three of the fours singles points, with only a narrow three game defeat for Lisa McMullen (Glasgow) preventing the clean sweep.

In the doubles, Young and Stewart suffered a reverse at the hands of British Police duo Brian Lockie and James Teale while Kaity Hall (Mauchline) and Catriona Lawlor (Cumbernauld) were defeated by Anna Wilson and Jill Smith.

But Andrew Gilliland (Bearsden) and Fraser Michie (Motherwell), and Gilmour and Kirsten Geals (Mauchline) hit back to put the score at 5-3.

And Scotland went on to dominate the mixed doubles, with Young and Lawlor, Michie and Gilmour and Gilliland and Geals all winning their ties.
