

West End Primary School secure Primary Sportshall Challenge
Morayshire’s West End Primary School are the news Bank of Scotland Primary Sportshall Challenge Champions after winning the finals at the Bells Sports Centre in Perth.
The 10-strong West End team just held off two-time former winners, Battlefield Primary (Glasgow) in the eight team finals. Overall, the event included 1500 children from 160 Scottish schools.
Mill O’Forest Primary from Aberdeenshire finished third.
The Bank of Scotland Primary Sportshall Challenge was devised four years ago by BADMINTONscotland's Development Manager Russell Hogg. Its success has been made possible by the continuing support from Bank of Scotland and additional support from the Sports Development department of Perth and Kinross Council.
Hogg was delighted with this year’s competition: “The level of interest the Bank of Scotland Primary Sportshall Challenge has generated across the country has been amazing. The final was a fitting end to a great competition with some excellent badminton skills on show. The Challenge has once again proved very successful and I’m confident it will continue to grow next year and beyond.”
Gordon Thomson, the Scottish Champion, was also at the finals, and he added: “It was a pleasure to watch so many youngsters developing their badminton skills and showing a real passion for the game. It’s a great way of introducing children to the sport and hopefully they will continue to play badminton for many years to come.”
