Three Scots into singles' third round

Edinburgh’s Martin Campbell, seeded to reach the quarter-finals, was the only Scot to make the last 32 of the boys'  singles at the European Junior Championships in Milan. The 18-year-old eased through with a
comfortable 21-14 21-15 win over Finland’s Roni Lyttinen.

But there was a great Scottish double In the girls’ singles as 15-year-old Kirsty Gilmour (Bothwell), the Bank of Scotland Under-19 champion, and Kisten Geals (Mauchline) both survived tough three game battles. Gilmour came from behind to beat Romania’s Magda Lozniceriu 18-21 21-18 21-12, while Geals beat Busenur Korkmaz (Turkey) 21-19 17-21 21-11.

Longniddry’s Paul Van Rietvelde and Glasgow’s Gillian Sloan, the No.2 seeds, made a confident start to the mixed doubles. The Scottish pair beat Germany’s Birger Abts and Ineke Decoster 21-10 21-13.
