Mason and Cooper remain for Scotland after Egelstaff exits
Scottish Champion Susan Egelstaff suffered a disappointing 15-21 13-21 to England’s Liz Cann in the first round of the women’s singles at the Denmark Open Super Series in Odense.
Cann, the Bank of Scotland Scottish International Champion, is ranked six places behind Egelstaff at No. 42 in the world, but took less than half an hour to claim her place in the last 16.
But Scotland’s Emma Mason and Jillie Cooper both went through in the women’s doubles. Mason and England’s Heather Olver crushed Germany’s Nicole Grether and Canadian Charmaine Reid 21-16 21-13.
Cooper, who underwent a foot operation in the summer, and England’s Mariana Agathangelou, the Bank of Scotland Scottish International Champions, had a really tough match against Swedes Emelie Lennartsson and Emma Wenberg, but made it to the last 16 with a 24-26 21-17 21-19 scoreline.
