Susan is second seed in Dublin

Scotland’s Susan Hughes is the No.2 seed behind Germany’s Julienne Schenk in the women’s singles at the Yonex Irish International Championships in Dublin this week.

The Glasgow player is bidding for a first win of the season – and she could face an intriguing rematch against Estonia’s Kati Tolmoff in the semi-finals.

Hughes was also No.2 seed at the Bank of Scotland International in Glasgow last month, but lost to Tolmoff, the eventual runner-up, in straight games at the final four stage.

In the men’s doubles, Livingston’s Thomas Bethell, a recent recruit to the GB set-up in Milton Keynes, is seed No.8 with England’s Robert Adcock in the men’s doubles.

Glasgow teenager Kieran Merrilees, who reached the final of the Yonex Welsh International, is again unseeded, but has another chance to show his undoubted promise. He opens against Estonia’s No.8 seed, Raul Must.
