Susan into final

National champion Susan Egelstaff has reached the Bank of Scotland International Championships final in her hometown of Glasgow.

The 26-year old came through an epic three-game quarter final against Russian Tatiana Bibik before easing through to the final with a defeat of Swiss player Jeanine Cicognini.

The Scot, seeded second at Kelvin Hall, warded off a second-game comeback from eighth seed Bibik before coming through her last-eight tie 21-15, 12-21, 21-13.

But Egelstaff moved into another gear for her semi-final and dismissed Cicognini 21-17, 21-12 in just 29 minutes to set up a final clash with Russia’s former champion and top seed Ella Diehl.

Edinburgh’s Emma Mason is also set for a medal in Glasgow after reaching the women’s doubles final with English partner Mariana Agathangelou.

The British pair defeated Scot Jillie Cooper and England’s Samantha Ward 21-11, 21-15 to book a final berth against two-time winners and number one seeds, Russia’s Nina Vislova and Valeria Sorokina.
