Susan and Kieran seeded

Susan Egelstaff and Kieran Merrilees are the two home players among the seeds for the Bank of Scotland International Championships starting at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall on Wednesday.

Egelstaff is the No.2 seed behind two-time champion Ella Diehl, from Russia. But she is ahead of defending champion Elizabeth Cann. The English player beat Egeslstaff in the semi-finals last year but is only seeded No. 4.

Merrilees is seeded ninth of the16 men’s singles seeds, reward for a solid season whohc included an appearance in the final of the Yonex Welsh Open.

Egelstaff has a first-round bye before facing the winner of the first-round clash between Stefanie Bertels of Belgium and Bulgaria’s Lubomira Stoynova. Linda Sloan and Kirsty Gilmour are also in the main draw.

In the men’s singles, Merrilees opens his bid against England’s Sam Philips and victory could set up an all-Scottish clash with the Commonwealth Youth Games bronze medallist from Edinburgh, Martin Campbell.

Scotland also have National champion Gordon Thomson, Craig Goddard, Kenneth Young, Calum Menzies and Stephen McPhail in the main draw.

In the women’s doubles Scotland’s Jillie Cooper and Mariana Agathangelou, the 2008 winners, are defending the title – but not together.

Agathangelou will partner Edinburgh’s Emma Mason and they are in the same half as Cooper and England’s Samantha Ward.
