Sixteen Scots for UK Games

Bothwell's Kirsty Gilmour, the Bank of Scotland Under-17 Champion, has been named in the 16-strong Scotland badminton team for the UK School Games at the University of the West of England in Bristol from August 28-31.

Mauchline provides three players - Gregor McVean, Emma Cook and Shereen Spittal - in a squad that will be accompanied by coaches Karen Stalker, Bill Hogg and Lena Robertson.

Gilmour and the former under 15 Bank of Scotland national singles champion Michael Campbell (Edinburgh) will be the two leading singles players.

The UK School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK 's elite young athletes of school age. Each of the 9 sports are combined into a 4-day games environment designed to replicate the feel of major events such as the Olympic Games.

Scotland's badminton players brought back a silver and three bronze medals from last year's UK School Games in Coventry and this year's squad will hope to be even more successful.
