India too strong but Scotland maintain group three position
Scotland are certain to drop at least a couple of spots in the rankings after a final day group defeat from India at the Sudirman Cup in China. The team that finished 19th in Glasgow two years ago will face the Czech Republic in the 21st/22nd place play-off.
Following a second day victory over Australia, the Scots failed to take a point against India. Scottish National Champion Susan Hughes came closest to preventing the whitewash when she took the first game before going down 21-18 13-21 19-21 to Saina Nehwal in the women’s singles.
But staying within Group three is a decent result for a team that was weakened by the loss of the inured pair of Imogen Bankier and Paul Van Rietvelde and the unavailable Scottish doubles champion, Watson Briggs.
