England to strong for Scotland at Quadrangular
Matthew Carder (Kirkliston), Kirsty Gilmour (Bothwell) and Kirsty McGlynn(Greenock) won the singles matches for Scotland, but it wasn't quite enough to stop England from retaining the Bank of Scotland Home Countries' Quadrangular at Scotstoun Leisure Centre in Glasgow.
Scotland had beaten Ireland (10-0) and Wales (6-4) on Friday to set up the decider and the match against England ended in a dramatic 5-all draw. The holders, having whitewashed Ireland and beaten Wales 8-2, won on a countback.
In the individual championships, the two Kirtsys again underlined their potential by reaching the final of the girls' doubles. In the semi-finals, they beat Eleanor Travers and Alexandra Gilder (England) 21-14 21-14 and meet in the final.
In the semi-finals of the boys' doubles, Carder and Gregor McVean (Mauchline) lost 16-21 7-21 to England's Aaron Cheng and Rhys Walker (England).
