Final match win ensures Scots of 21st place at Sudirman Cup
Scotland ended their Sudirman Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic in Guangzhou.
But earlier defeats to the Ukraine and India mean the squad, depleted by the absence of key players Imogen Bankier and Watson Briggs, finish 21st overall, two places down on their ranking in Glasgow two years ago.
Andrew Bowman and Emma Mason beat Jan Frohlich and Kristina Ludikova in a three set mixed doubles encounter while national men?s singles champion Gordon Thomson lost 21-19, 21-8 to Petr Koukal,
Glasgow's Commonwealth bronze medallist Susan Hughes, playing her last match before her wedding later this month, put the Scots 2-1 up with another solid display in beating Martina Benesova 21-19, 21-6.
And it was left to Bowman and Thomas Bethell to secure the winning point when they overcame Frohlich and Jan Vondra in a three-game battle 21-10, 19-21, 21-15.
It was another contest where the Scots could have won it in two after leading 13-10 in the second.
But they finished the job in the third to make the women's doubles, where Mason was to partner Bank of Scotland International champion Jillie Cooper, a dead rubber.
