Scots fail to progress past the second round of Swedish Open
Glasgow teenager Linda Sloan did well to beat Portugal’s Ana Moura in the first round of women’s singles at the Swedish Open in Stockholm. But she then lost 19-21 17-21 to Denmark’s Karina Jorgensen.
This coming weekend, Sloan will be the main rival to Commonwealth Games medallist Susan Hughes at the Yonex Scottish National Championships at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth.
Two of Scotland’s men also lost in the second round of the doubles. Watson Briggs and Matthew Honey (England) lost 13-21 17-21 to England’s Chris Langridge and David Lindley.
Andy Bowman and Martyn Lewis (Wales), who were the No.4 seeds, went out 16-21 13-21 Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Noryasu Hirata.
