Rietvelde and Sloan reach the semi-final stage of the Dutch Junior Open
Paul Van Rietvelde and Gillian Sloan were the last Scots standing at the Dutch Junior Open – their great run in the mixed doubles coming to an end at the semi-final stage.
Paul and Gillian had scored a great 19-21 21-17 21-13 comeback win over Adrain Dzolko and Yulia Kazarinova in the quarter-finals, but then bowed out 15-21 12-21 to Malaysia’s Iskander Zulkamian Zamuddin and Jing Yi Tee.
In the men’s doubles, Van Rietvelde and Craig Pollock went out at the last 16 stage. They lost 20-22 17-21 to Germany’s Fabian Holzer and Max Schwerger.
Martin Campbell and Angus Gilmour, despite being seeded No.2, also lost in the third round, going down 10-21 16-21 to the Polish couple of Berry Angriawan and Muhammad Ulinuha.
Campbell went out in the third round in the men’s singles. Seeded to reach the quarter-finals, he fought out a close tussle with French youngster, Marin Baumann, but was on the wrong end of a 21-23 17-21 scoreline.
