Merrilees moves up

Scotland's Kieran Merrilees, the European and British ranked No. 1 junior, is ready to make the next transition to senior level.

"I've just started a hard summer programme of physical training," said the Glasgow 18-year-old. "It is going to be a massive step moving to the seniors and I know I have to become so much stronger.

"But I'm ready to put in the work in the gym. Next season, I'll be playing on the European circuit and trying to qualify for as many tournaments as possible."

Glasgow's Young Sports Person of the Year, Kieran has gained another award as one of TSB Lloyds Local Heroes. "It is nice to get the recognition," he agreed.

Coached by Dan Travers and Diana Koleva as a member of the Scottish Junior High Performance squad, he will now move into the Scottish senior set-up and he already has his eye on a big prize in his first year in men's competitions.

"One of my first goals is to win the Scottish National Championship," he declared
