Mason returns from injury

Following a nightmare injury-wrecked year, Emma Mason has been recalled to a nine-strong Scotland team for the Sudirman Cup in Guangzhou, China, from May 10-17.

Sidelined by an Achilles injury since last March, the 22-year-old Glasgow University student made her comeback at last month’s Scottish National Championships and now she is looking forward to collecting her 15th cap in China.

“I can’t really explain how happy I feel,” said Mason, a doubles specialist. “It’s been such a long road back. But nw I’m sure that thee are god things to come.”

For Jillie Cooper and Thomas Bethell it will be a special trip to China - Jillie will be 21 the day before it starts and Thomas will be 21 on finals’ day.

Watson Briggs (Renfrew), who played in the European Championships in Liverpool, was originally selected, but has had to decline his place due to university exams.

The last Sudirman Cup was staged in Glasgow two years ago, when Scotland rose two paces to No.19 in the rankings.
