Martin Campbell looking to regain form at Bank of Scotland National Championships
Edinburgh’s Martin Campbell will be aiming to shake off the disappointment of last week’s European Junior Championships when he starts as one of the title favourites at this week’s Bank of Scotland National Championships at Meadowbank in Edinburgh.
Campbell failed to fulfil his dream of winning a European junior medal – and will have a point to prove as the No.2 seed behind Gordon Hoggan (Dunfermline) in the Under-23 singles.
Martin currently holds the Bank of Scotland National Under-19 titles in both singles and doubles – he is tipped to add the under-23 doubles with regular partner Angus Gilmour (Troon).
In the under-17 age-group, Kirsty Gilmour (Bothwell) and Kirsty McGlynn (Greenock) are the names to watch. Gilmour, already the under-19 champion, is singles favourite and the pair join up as top seeds in the girls’ doubles.
Adam Hall (Mauchline) is No.1 seed in the under-13 singles, a section that includes the talented twins from Motherwell, Hannah and Sophie Morrison. Two years ago, Hannah beat her sister in the Under-11 final – perhaps revenge is on the cards?
